Find Who Owns' An Email Address

Not sure how to go about freelance writing as a beginner?
I have always been a strong writer, and I’ve been told so by professors, friends and such, but my experience has never really gone beyond school or writing resumes and cover letters. Well I recently came across an email which led me to find a site for freelance writers, and its legit, there is no fee, its actually people and companies looking for people to proofread, edit, write articles etc, and your paid. Some ask for resumes as well as samples of writings you’ve done but it looks like it is really tailored to those who have been writing for a long time.
Like I said, I haven’t really written anything on a professional level.
Here is my question, are there any sites or companies that anyone knows of who can help a beginner get started, maybe something that gives writing assignments and gives assessments? I guess the underlying problem is I’m not certain how to get my foot in the door.
A great site to get your “foot in the door” is Helium.com. I signed up on this site almost 3 years ago and I have been using it ever since. It is an ever growing community of writers and even more publishers are coming aboard and posting marketplace ads. Check out the Marketplace for paying articles. But even more than that, make sure to write, write, write. Any topic you want, write about it. The more articles you have available, the more marketable you’ll be.
Also, eHow and Associated Content are great resources to begin with.
Good luck, it’s tough out there, but if you stick to it, you’ll be successful. The feeling when your first article sells, even if it’s for $10, is the best feeling ever.
