is it good for a swimmer to contact college coaches?

I want to contact dave salo at usc and some other coaches, but I’m unsure if I should contact head coaches or assistants or what
also I feel sorta awk sending an email to some coach who probs has only heard my name once or twice if ever

yes, its a great idea to talk to coaches if you want to swim for them, however, if youre only a sophomore, they cant really say anything back. im a junior and i recently contacted the coach at minnesota, and because of some weird NCAA rules he couldnt really talk to me that much until July 1st. one thing you could do to get to know the coach/facility better would be to see if they run a swim camp over the summer and go there. then, you can talk to the coach in person and also improve on your swimming. wait until the summer of junior year or the beginning of senior year to really start emailing/calling coaches. congrats on the juniors cuts by the way!
